Protection Paladins — still top choice for tanking



At least accord­ing to my readers.

Almost two months ago, I asked a very sim­ple ques­tion:

When doing nor­mal or heroic 5-mans, what tank do you prefer?

The results are as follows:

I’m very glad we won by such a big mar­gin. It gives me con­fi­dence our role has vastly improved and we have a great future ahead of us.

   You ran this poll on this blog.… a blog for pal­adin tanks…

   O…K…

   IMO right now, you can take any tank, tak­ing a war­rior is much faster as they dont need to drink, do more dmg, and gen­er­ate more threat on sin­gle and mul­ti­ple tar­gets.
   Any tank is ok, but war­rior is king.

   @Rob — Yep, I ran it here, but not all my read­ers are Pal­adin Tanks

   As for the “war­rior is king” or war­riors do more threat/damage part … I pre­fer not to get into an argu­ment, because I’ve faced many opin­ions like this and I coun­tered them all before. Pretty tired to do it again. I’ll just let Pal­adins speak for them­selves. It all comes down to skill in the end.

   And notice my ques­tion: it wasn’t about 25-man raids (where I guess you state that “war­riors are kings”).

   Just taken from my expe­ri­ence right now and the thoughts of the pal­adin tanks in my guild, if you want to check their gear you can — eu quel’thalas Nikachelle and Taciri.

   we recently ran za which we cleared many times before the patch, with me (Lin­mao) tank­ing we had 17mins left on the timer when we got the 4th chest.
   Next week we used 2 pal­adin tanks and things were just slow, the dps had to hold back, the pal­adins had to drink, they couldnt seper­ate the bears in front of nalo­rakk because of the aoe taunt and nature of their abil­i­ties, which wasnt a prob­lem any­way because of their gear. the nerf, and the gen­eral skill of our healers.

   Right now, as it is, in 5mans, 10 mans and 25 mans, and this is just in my expe­ri­ence, war­riors are amaz­ing, high on dam­age done, aoe tank­ing no prob­lem, and sin­gle tar­get boss tank­ing hit­ting 2.5k tps.

   Didnt mean my post to be as it came out, but your poll looks like it was based alot on pre patch thoughts, where you would always take a pally tank over any­thing else because of the speed and ease of aoe­ing the trash with­out hav­ing to worry about cc.
   well, thats no more with improved thun­der­clap and shock­wave, reduced cooldown on chal­leng­ing shout etc.

   In the end, I think its about equal, whether you take a war­rior, pally or druid its just about the same, except maybe a lit­tle quicker with a warrior.
