Trade chat – we all love to hate it

Posted by User ImageTepisor on August 10, 2008

You know that I’m talking about, right? I’m sure you do!

Please raise your hands all those of you who didn’t read at least once in your gaming experience the endless bullshit that rolls in /2.

No hands up?

Good.

Now, the situation is not peach and roses on [EU]Daggerspine either. Oh no, we sure have our share of bored people here.

I’ve identified 4 types of spam rolling in trade chat:

  1. Dirge (and variations) spam;
  2. Crafting and recruitment spam;
  3. Bored spam;
  4. Gold spam;

“WTF, you left gold spamming last?” Yes. Because it’s the far less worst type. In the last two weeks, I didn’t see more than 10 adverts total. Well, yeah, it’s true, I don’t play a lot and when I do I’m usually out of towns or in BGs. But, you know, used to be far worst so I’m glad that stopped.

More spamming fun after the jump. Ni-hao!

Biggest "Oh, shit!" moments

Posted by User ImageTepisor on June 11, 2008

I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. We all had one. We all did something stupid in WoW, like buying the wrong items or clicking the wrong talent when respecing and having to do it all over again. Well, here are mine:

  1. A couple of weeks ago I managed to get a full Karazhan clear with my PvP Shadow Priest and got along the way both T4 tokens, Gloves and Head. I was really happy about this, as both we’re a major upgrade over the gear I had. So, I happily ran to get my T4 gear, forgetting that I can buy S1 gear with those Tokens (remember, my main goal is PvP). So, a week later, it hit me and realized my stupidness. I opened a ticket but in vain, as too much of a time passed that a GM could replace my gear.
  2. A friend of mine gave me 7 stacks of Netherweave Cloth. He didn’t have any use for them and knew I’m a Tailor on my Priest. Made space in my bags for all the Cloth, opened the Tailoring tab and, without looking at what I was going to craft, I just hit Create All. I was certain I was doing Bolts of Netherweave Cloth. I knew it would take some time to craft them all so I went a bit AFKish, doing some other stuff in the mean time. When I got back, I was pretty amazed I had almost 4 stacks of Netherweave Nets in my bags. Yeah.

There they are. Funny thing is, both happened within the same week, one after each other.

What are your biggest "Oh, shit!" moments?

Name the pet of my alt Hunter

Posted by User ImageTepisor on June 7, 2008

Between endless boring BG farming on my Shadow Priests and helping struggling friends on my Protection Paladin, I’ve started an alt, a (hawt!) Female Night Elf Hunter, named Teps.

Until now, I’ve found that playing a Hunter is easy, but fun. It might get harder later on, but for now it’s just send pet in packs of 2-3 mobs then KEEL!

But let’s get to the real problem at hand. I’ve reached level 13 and tamed myself a Elder Nightsaber, which is really cool. Good DPS, decent amount of armor and has Growl enabling me to nuke at my pleasure. But he’s named Cat which is a bit… meh.

So! What should I name him? I’m really bad at creative stuff like this and so I ask for your help. I want it to be something that people remember or just go lolwut? for a second.

Any suggestions?

Common mistakes in building your Protection Paladin

Posted by User ImageTepisor on May 13, 2008

I had some spare time last week and while waiting for some BG queues I roamed around Shattrath and inspected some Paladins. I was really glad to see many Protection Paladins (apparently they are very popular on my server). To my surprise, I found some that made some big mistakes in their builds and gear. So here is a list of what I discovered along with some tips on how to correct them.

General guide in terms of gear

  • You don’t need Agility, Strength and Intellect on your items. Sure, they are nice to have, but these are not your primary stats so seek to replace them. Remember Spiritual Attunement?
  • What you need are Defense Rating, Stamina, Block Rating, Dodge, Block Value and Spell Damage. Stack these and you’ll do a great job;

General guide in terms of builds

  • Don’t invest in Divine Intellect! Protection Paladins don’t need any Intellect in items or in talents. That’s why Spiritual Attunement exists;
  • Don’t invest in Improved Devotion Aura or Improved Concentration Aura! There are simply much better places to invest your points in so going for these is just a waste;
  • Don’t invest in Improved Hammer of Justice! Although stunning is useful in some situations, it’s not worth investing 3 points in it;
  • Don’t invest in Stoicism! Even with the 10% stun resist chance you’ll probably still be stunned and besides, who needs dispel resistance? This is clearly a PvP talent and should not be part of any PvE build of a Protection Paladin;
  • I saw some Protection Paladins with Pursuit of Justice. In my opinion, this becomes an useful talent only when you start main tanking high end content where every type of damage mitigation is very important, especially Spell Damage, where we are weaker than other tanks;

Common builds

You can check some of the builds I currently play with in this post: Interesting Protection Paladin builds. Also, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me. I’ll do my best to answer.

The fine line between you and your character

Posted by User ImageTepisor on May 4, 2008

Did you notice how some players refer to their characters as individual entities?

Like

<InsertCharacterName> went raiding last night and got some nice loot. He’s a happy <InsertClassName> now.

instead of

So I went raiding last night on <InsertCharacterName> and got some nice loot. Glad I did, will make my playtime on him more pleasant.

I swear, those things really scare me.
