I already talked about Protection Paladin Glyphs earlier in a post, but Patch 3.1 brings a new set of interesting Glyphs.
It’s not yet certain what kind of Glyphs these will be, but they look OK. Let’s take a look.
Glyph of Divine Plea: While Divine Plea is active, you take 3% reduced damage from all sources.
This might not look good in the first place, but Guarded by the Light talent is changed. Does that mean we’ll have 100% uptime on Divine Plea and thus take 3% less damage? Looks yummy. This will be _the_ Glyph to have (also because they are nerfing Spiritual Attunement – boooooooooooooo! and increasing the mana cost of our abilities).
Next Glyph.
Glyph of Hammer of the Righteous: Your Hammer of the Righteous hits 1 additional target.
One additional target is always good. Makes us even powerful in AoE tanking and trash.
So, until now, we get two excellent Glyphs, that might replace some of the useless ones. But what slot will they fit? Major or Minor? I tried to find an Inscriptor on the PTRs that can craft them, but with no success. They weren’t even on the AH. My best guess is that they will fit a Major slot. Please ignore that, I didn’t check wowhead before posting. They fit Major slots.
Right now I’m thinking I’ll run with DP, HotR/SoV and Judgement/Exorcism as Glyphs, depending on the fights. But things may change.
What about you?

I really don’t understand why people use SoV glyph. I could be wrong i’m not a wow expert but most of our damage is reactive and do not benifit from expertise at all like Consecration, Holy Shield, Ret Aura. SoV itself is a DOT and do not befinit from expertise at all. It’s really easy to stack it 5 times on 3 target even if you miss your HotR here and there. Judgement and Exorcism are spells (?) and i don’t think they can de blocked, dodged or parried.
It leaves HotR and SotR. I’m not even sure SotR can be dodged, nlocked or paried.
Honestly i can’t recall the last time a boxx dodged, parried or blocked me. It almost never happens and the only expertise i have comes from talents and gears.
I tank Naxx 25 and have no trouble bulding a lead of 30-40% threat even with good groups.
Glyph of Divine Plea will be a must. Imo Glyph of Hand of Salavation will be a must. 20% damage reduce is huge. And l always have more than 20 lead in threat. Finally since Exorcism will work on all target i will probably take this one as my last major glyph.
i dont know much about paladins…but hand of salvation reduces your thread :S…i like the 20% dmg reduction…but losing your thread is a disaster for a tank
Well it’s easy to understand. Tanking is all about Survivability and Threat generation. The less you are parried the more threat you generate. thats how prot paladins, or tanks in general benefit from expertise. granted its not required. its just nice to have that extra threat esp if you use glyph of salvation. If you find yourself 30k threat over the next guy, use it to give your healers a small break. or if your new to say ulduar and taking mimron for the first time. you can macro it with divine protection and just eat the first plasma blast so your healers dont have to go ape shit to keep you alive =)
