Paladins, Stop Sucking

I want to take a brief moment and let you know that I enjoy playing a Paladin more than any other class. I have a level 80 Priest, going from Shadow to Discipline and back many times, depending on my moods) and a 60 Hunter (that I probably should level seeing how good hunters are at the moment). These are alliance toons. I also have another 80 Hunter (Troll mon’) and a 74 Druid as Horde characters.

But my Paladin is my favorite character to play. That’s why it hurts me when I see another Paladin playing bad and giving us a bad name.

I don’t play my Horde characters very much. But when I play them (well, the Hunter mostly) I try and PuG 25-man stuff. Keep in mind that my Horde characters are on the Karazhan server, where I originally started playing as Alliance.

(small note that might turn to be really big: you have no idea how bad is being Alliance on Karazhan. It was bad when I transferred off and I only imagine now is even worst. The ratio is about 4:1 to Horde. According to wowjutsu.com, there is only 1 Alliance guild in the top10, at place 7. Next one is on 14. That’s bad. Really bad. WG on Horde side has constantly 2 full raids while Alliance is running with 10-15 Tenacity buffs. I guess it’s fun up to a point for them, 1-shoting most players.)

So I was playing my Hunter and found a 25-man PuG for Sartharion. We clear the drakes and prepare to face him. That’s when I noticed no one had any Paladin buffs yet. So I politely ask for buffs. I get a Bok and I think to myself “BoK is good, gid moar cuz I suck at huntering and need all the help I can get!”. 10-15 seconds pass, I only had BoK with 3 Paladins in the raid. So I ask again. Nothing. I whisper one of the Paladins and I finally get a BoM. We wait 30 seconds more, hoping the other Paladin notices that he should like buff and stuff, but alas, he didn’t and we started the encounter.

(another small note: even tho I’m really bad at playing a Hunter and I’m also specced MM, I was able to keep 3k DPS by only spamming Steady Shot and hitting Wyvern Sting every CD. Mana was an issues, but thank Blizzard for Aspect of the Viper.)

This whole situation left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I hear many people complain about Paladins and buffing, but I never had any problems before. I don’t use a buffing addon (like PallyPower) but I never miss any buffs. Even if I buff greater blessings and someone needs something else, I’m fast on correcting it.

How hard can it be people? It’s a simple thing to do, that only requires at most 10 seconds of your time, then you can forget about it for 30 minutes. So stop giving Paladins a bad name and buff up already!

What’s your experience with Paladins and buffing?

Most of the paladins I play with are pretty good at remembering things like buffs. I do sometimes have to remind them to buff my pet, if there are no warriors around (since pets get the warrior buffs)– as a Beast Master my pet is about 45% of my DPS, he needs Might too! =P

Unfortunately I’ve noticed a similar thing. Paladins refuse to get Pally Power in PuGs and then forget to rebuff. I set up my guild’s Pally Power for raids though, and I always get whispers from guildies asking which paladin was doing whatever buff they need. I know it can get crazy buffing an entire raid every half hour, but I need to click on red things, Pally Power, Decursive, etc. So in general, I’m on top of my buffs.

Our paladins all have Pally Power, so we all get everything we need.

The only scary times are when I don’t think anyone has Kings.

PallyPower for the win! I’m the prot spec pally in the guild so I almost always am on Kings duty.

Oh, and I rarely buff pets. I keep having issues with buffing pets and it overwrites their owners buff, so I just leave it alone.

Ok…let’s be fair. You said the Paladins in your 25-man PUG sucked…right? Give me a break already. It was pick-up-group! It was a pick-up group for OS and you did 3K DPS by spamming one maybe 2 buttons. So maybe you didn’t really need the buffs anyway.

But it’s the principle right. Those three guys are making all Pallys look bad. Really?

It’s not like you were in Naxx where that extra buff was the difference in taking down the boss for an acheivement. How many times have you been in a Raid where you didn’t get the buff when it really counted…when you really needed it.

There is no WOW given right to buffs. I noticed that you did a bang up job passing out those Hunter buffs that you have. Oh wait…

You have a point that Pallys should buff. I agree. But that doesn’t make them stupid. It doesn’t mean they suck. 25-man PuGs are disorganized by design. Were those Paladins part of the group trying to throw the Raid together? I know that when I put one together…there is always last minute issues like people being saved or having to find another healer. Was everyone completely cooperative? I doubt it.

On top of all that, think of the composition of PuGs. Lots of people that do 25-man PuGs because they don’t have a regular 25-man group to play with. I don’t run 25-man raids. We run the 10-mans. My UIs aren’t set up for 25-man run including PallyPower. For a pickup group that is taking on OS with no drakes…it hardly seems worth the effort.

There are a lot of things that happen at the begining of a 25-man PuG. There are different skill levels of players. There is always that person not paying attention that makes an inadvertant pull. Besides, its not like you press one raid wide buff for the entire raid like a mage or a priest. And we have all been in groups were there is two or three people that don’t want to wait to get everyone set up properly. You seen them…”we can pull trash .” No readychecks. No warning. Was there anyone coordinating Pally buffs? How do you know they were rebuffing the same thing?

My point here is that it was a silly PuG. It was a silly PuG on a difficulty that didn’t really require any. Yeah they missed their buffs. Shame on them.

But those three guys that missed their buffs for whatever reason (I mean you whispered them and everything) are making all of us look like we suck. Or maybe it was just those three? I know that my regular group gets their buffs…that’s my part. But spare me the QQing if three inexperienced guys in a PuG forgot to buff you. Sorry they didn’t live up to your standards as a Paladin. Sorry they bringing us all down…

    Please.

      Hiya

I have a 80 prot pala on bloodhoof alliance and I was wondering what specs you guys think is the best, I also don’t spec for kings or might at all and always really on the ret and holy palas to do kings and might.

      Cheers

I’m going to have to agree with this comment.

i cant agree with you danny. at first:
being in a pick up group aint an excuse to not buff some1. sure its true you got a lot of things on your mind when your raiding. but i had a time that i wasnt paying that attention. doesnt stop me from buffing all the classes while fighting, just throw it into to your cycle, as a pally you have 1 spot left in your cycle.
i use judgement, crusader strike and divine storm everytime they hit the cd. same with exorcism. problem is that exorcism has double the CD. that means. 1s in the 2 cycles you got an openspot. wich can be used for a buff. just select the ones who need the most and buff em up.

i agree on you that the 3 guys are a shame for themselfs and not for the whole palladin nation or something. Just i guess this is 1 of many examples. i got many problems with other pallies not doing their jobs aswell. whisping them wich buff they do and wich one you will do is normal. just not responding on it and overbuffing your buffs is silly and just annoying :P

Agree with danny stop making a big deal out of nothin.

  8. Provoker says:

I’m a horde paladin on Jaedenar (EU) and i’ve met loads and loads of paladins who slack on buffs, but then again, there is also many who buff without needing to ask.

    Pallypower is overrated.

  9. SoftDeath says:

Pally Power is V.Handy .. I am Holy/Prot dual Spec.

Since the kings is trainable .. The Kings duty is not mine :)
” If we were doing 25 Man ”

I think “Pally Power” Is Important cuz there is so many noobs playing the game (not only paladinz), and with this add on you avoid the damn /w : plz Buff me Kings. !!!

  10. failadin says:

paladins suck with buffing since years, true story. it gets so hard on my nuts already that i leave group if i dont get a buff after asking for one. it should be selfevident to buff as a paladin with level 80. and if theres only one paladin and no warrior a pala should know that certain classes want bom and not bok at the first place.
