Protection Paladin soloing Stratholme Undead side — live blogging

The idea

The idea came to me after I saw some good videos on Youtube about another Paladin doing it so I thought why not do it myself? I took enchanting and leveled it to 300 just for this reason: to take advantage of my character (Protection Paladin) and farm instances for money.

The instance

The city of Stratholme was the northernmost city of the Kingdom of Lordaeron, and was the city where the Order of the Silver Hand was founded.

The Scourge’s capital in Lordaeron, Stratholme is a city of evil and dark magic. Once a great human city, the mad Prince Arthas ravaged Stratholme in the Third War and the undead moved in soon after. Kel’Thuzad raised undead structures among the human ruins and his necropolis, Naxxramas, floats above the city and pours its foul vapors into the streets. Undead and necromancers control the city while gargoyles and frost wyrms patrol the sky. Noxious orange mist oozes from the buildings and poisons living creatures, transforming them into servants of the Scourge. Kel’Thuzad’s rule here is absolute, and from here he stretches his skeletal hands to control the surrounding plaguelands.

Let’s start

21:00 — I’ve entered the back door of the instance and started clearing the first pack of mobs. They are usually composed of 2 casters and 3–4 melee. They die really easy off your Consecration and Holy Shield. No problems here at all.

21:10 — Got the Baron debuff, I should kill him before 45 minutes to get extra loot. Don’t think I’ll make it though, drinking after every pull and alt-tabing a lot.

21:13 — Watch out for Shrieking Banshees. They silence. Also Eye of Naxxramas spawns randomly and should be killed right away.

21:18 — Also watch out for Rockwing Screechers. They fear.

21:22 — Crypt Crawlers are also very bad. They root you and can’t cast any spells.

21:30 — Almost died. If you see more than 2 Thuzadin Necromancers, don’t pull that group. They life and mana drain at a high rate. Very hard to kill as Protection.

21: 36 — Starting the fight with the first boss, Nerub’enkan.

21:39 — First boss dead (lol, 3 minute fight). Nothing special about him, just nuke.

21:41 — Remember to kill the Acolytes behind the door that opens after each boss kill.

21:46 — Starting second boss, Baroness Anastari, with 10 minutes left on the Baron timer.

21:49 — Second boss down. Remember, if you bring a friend, one of you will get MCed and start to kill the other, so be careful. Use shadow aura here, she does extensive damage and silences from time to time.

21: 56 — Baron timer is up, prisoner is dead. First BoE blue item drops: Shadowcraft Bracers yey!

22:00 — Second BoE blue drops: Lordly Armguards.

22:08 — Things got a bit complicated. Right in front of third boss is a group with 2 Thuzadin Necromancers. Wish me luck!

22:11 — First wipe. In my attempt to avoid the group, pulled both the boss and the group. Wish I could output more DPS.

22:16 — The group is dead! Key here is Seal of Vengeance.

22:17 — Starting the fight with the third boss, Maleki the Pallid.

22:20 — Third boss dead. Funny fight. He reseted on me mid-fight because I got trapped for a long time. I used frost resistance aura because he’s casting only frost spells. He drains both health and mana so be careful.

22:34 — Starting Magistrate Barthilas fight. He is near the Baron gate, he’s normally not here, but near the front entrance. He spawned here because I have the back-door key.

22:37 — Forth boss down. He’s a simple tank-and-spank fight.

22:38 — Starting trash before Baron.

23:00 — Cleared all trash. Now all that remains is to loot the trash and start the fight.

23:02 — Starting Baron fight. Fingers crossed.

23:05 — Baron dead! I’m left with ~900HP. Shadow aura is a must here. Also Consecrate when he spawns skeletons. Else, just watch mana, I had to use a pot here.

Stay tuned for conclusions.

Conclusions

Large Brilliant Shardx9, 11g in loot, Greater Eternal Essencex3, 2 BoE Blues, 4 stacks of Runecloth.

I wont make a price summary of those because it varies a lot on the server you play. You decide for yourself if it’s worth. It took me a bit over 2 hours to clear all bosses, but it can be done faster, no question about it.

This run will bring me around 300g. It was also a pleasant way to spend my Sunday evening in WoW (especially when I had friends mocking me for my endeavor). Next time I’ll try the Scarlet side. Heard it’s a bit more difficult, but who cares.

Sorry, but I couldn’t Fraps this run, would have taken too much hard disk space. Should have taken some pics. Sometimes I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed.
