Welcome to Patch 3.0.2



Below is a nice lit­tle sec­tion of FAQ for all the peo­ple who are spam­ming up every wow-fansite’s forums look­ing for answers.

Q: Patch Day? 3.0.2 ? What?
A: Today is patch day, mean­ing that the game is being patched to a new ver­sion, with a lot of new updates. 3.0.2 is the ver­sion of the patch.

Q: Why is my server down?
A: Patches are a long process, many servers might still be down for an extended period of time, or your server might have gone up, then crashed from the stress. Be patient.

Q: I am stuck on char­ac­ter load­ing screen, why?
A: When your server goes up, hun­dreds if not thou­sands of play­ers might be rush­ing to do the same thing you are, login and play. Be patient, when that many peo­ple are try­ing to access their char­ac­ters, the server goes under a lot of stress. Stay on the server selec­tion screen for a bit. Do not sit there on the “load­ing char­ac­ters”, sim­ply because it will only add to the stress of the server. Just keep try­ing every 5–10 minutes.

Q: How long until I can get on and play?
A: Be patient, there is dozens of servers that are slowly going up, and mil­lions of peo­ple try­ing to get onto them. The game servers are under tremen­dous stress right now, be patient, every­one will get in.

Q: I got in! But my screen is so screwed up with weird win­dows and pop­ups I can bar­ley play?
A: 99% of the time this is caused by addons. Patch 3.0.2 changes huge sec­tions in the game’s cod­ing that allows the func­tions of addons to work cor­rectly, so chances are most if not all of your addons are no longer work­ing. Go back to your char­ac­ter select screen and dis­able them, or choose Not to load out of date addons. Some sites like curse.com already have some work­ing 3.0.2 addons, and the rest will fol­low with either updates for addons within the fol­low­ing weeks. Until then, just play with­out them (I know, it’s a sad day, I’m an addon fan as well!)

Q: I’m try­ing to play a Death Knight, but the but­ton is ‘grey-ed out’ and won’t let me select it?
A: Death Knights may have been patched into the game, but you still need the expan­sion to be able to unlock it. To play a death knight you need to meet these two require­ments;
1) You must have Wrath of the Lich King installed.
2) You must have a char­ac­ter on that server of level 55 or higher.

Q: How do I get to Northrend?
A: Buy the expan­sion and install it in Mid-November. Northrend’s not out until then.

Q: Why does the main WoW screen now say Wrath of the Lich King, I don’t have the expan­sion installed yet?
A: Bliz­zard knows all, they know your going to buy the expan­sion any­ways! Actu­ally, we are now in Wrath of the Lich King. Even if you don’t get the expan­sion (mean­ing no DKs or Northrend for you), we are still now in the time of the Lich King regardless.

Q: Why is my server Full/Locked! It ever was before?
A: When mul­ti­ple servers are down, peo­ple tend to still want to play, even if it’s just a level 1. Many peo­ple gen­er­ally go to another server for mul­ti­ple rea­sons and even­tu­ally servers that nor­mally don’t have a high pop­u­la­tion, start to build up. If theres a lot of servers offline, it’s not uncom­mon to see a lot more High/Full pop­u­la­tion servers, and even Locked if they become over­flow­ing with people.

Q: My patcher keeps giv­ing me an error!
A: First off, theres not much we can help you with here, your going to have to ask for help on this on the Worldofwarcraft.com forums.

Q: My patcher/computer Crashed WHILE I was patch­ing! Help!
A: It’s hap­pened. First step is to try to patch again. If the patcher did any dam­age the first time around, you’ll get an error right off the back before the 2nd attempt even gets going. Theres a very good chance that this might have cor­rupted the patch file or left it incom­plete.
How do you know if this hap­pened? The game will tell you it is cor­rupt and that you need to run Repair.exe. So first things first, run repair.exe in your wow folder. If that doesn’t fix the prob­lem, the patch file could be cor­rupted beyond repair. In that case, try delet­ing the patch file, located in your WoW folder, then inside the Data folder. patch.MPQ is the name of this file, you can delete it and try run­ning Repair.exe again (some peo­ple are para­noid about delet­ing a wow file, if your one of those peo­ple, move patch.MPQ to your desk­top, that way you can always move it back later if you change your mind). If it works, you’ll have your game back to retail ver­sion of TBC, and will have to patch up from 2.0.*
If all else fails, the rein­stall the whole game. (Yea thats not the answer you were look­ing for, but when your game goes com­pletely cor­rupt and repair.exe doesn’t work, it’s the only option, sorry.)

Q: Why is worldofwarcraft.com not load­ing &/or giv­ing me a Page Load Error?
A: Over 10 mil­lion peo­ple play WoW, mil­lions of them who use the web­site daily, and most of them are try­ing to go to the site for either the forums or the server sta­tus, or even their account infor­ma­tion page. Mil­lions of peo­ple try­ing to load a web­site is sim­ply killing their web servers. Don’t be sur­prised if you can’t get on the site any­time before Wednes­day. This is a long process, be patient.

Q: What’s new with patch 3.0.2?

Q: My server is on the list, but says ‘Offline’
A: Your server went up, became over-stressed from the mas­sive amounts of peo­ple try­ing to log on, and crashed. Give it time to come back up, patience! Don’t for­get, the servers might just very well go down and stay down all night…

Q: So, my server will be up even­tu­ally today right?
A: Not a guar­an­tee. It is most likely that all servers will be up before the days end, but if bliz­zard has an unfore­see­able prob­lem, well, any­thing can hap­pen. Be excited, be hope­ful, but don’t be expec­tant of any guarantees.

Q: I’m bored, my server is still down…
